From the Director’s Desk

It’s CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEK!!!!! Well, here we are.  We have worked tremendously hard over the last 16 weeks and are preparing for the last week of competition.

This has been a season of learning and improvement.  I have been very happy with the show.  We have a great group of students, who have improved a tremendous amount over the last three weeks and have been beginning to understand what it takes to achieve excellence.

I would like to give a heartfelt thank you to ALL of our parents who continue to be the support the students and staff need to operate.  We are ALL a team and we can’t do it without the help of our families.  Thanks to our Chaperones, Feed the Band Crew, Uniform Parents, Pit Crew, Truck Drivers, Photographers, Show host volunteer, MacGyver, or the countless number of other ways you have supported our students - THANK YOU!

Whatever happens this weekend, be proud to be a BRONCO! Enjoy your Thanksgiving Break and be excited for what is left to come in the school year as a member of the Clovis North Band and Color Guard.

Weather

As stated a few weeks ago, what do we do about the weather?  This week looks to be a bit different.  Rain has been in the forecast for a few days and it does not look like it is going away.

We are going ahead as scheduled for now. Please be patient and be flexible.  Schedules can change minute by minute.  Please refrain from assuming anything or creating plans that might not happen.

Any official change in schedule will be determined and communicated by Mr. Lesser through Remind and Cuttime.

Tuesday Rehearsal

Tonight is our final Tuesday night rehearsal.  It might be the last chance you have to see a full run-through of the show.  Please join us on the track field north side bleachers around 8:30 pm to celebrate the students and their marching band season.

Central Regional Championships

Let’s take a minute to celebrate our success throughout the season thus far.  We are currently undefeated in the 4A class of WBA, winning in San Jose, Golden State Tournament of Bands, Dublin, and are the 4A WBA Central Region Champion, receiving many caption awards along the way.

Those awards are a product of the process.  If we work hard, apply what is being taught, are consistent, and provide equal contributions these things happen. It is great to receive recognition that things are working properly.

STANDARD OF THE WEEK

"CELEBRATE"

This isn’t currently one of our standards.  However, this week we need to think about CELEBRATING!  Celebrate the time we have spent together, celebrate the improvements large and small, celebrate the transformation every performer has gone through since the beginning of the school year, celebrate our success, celebrate our pitfalls, celebrate our community, celebrate our product, and celebrate the conclusion of what has been an inspiring 16 weeks of hard work.

Congratulations to Our All-State Members!

There are four levels of concert bands and one jazz band.  There were over 150 high schools represented in these groups.  Each year it becomes more competitive to earn a spot in these groups.  Of all high schools represented, 13 schools have 8 or more student participants.  Most of the 13 schools have double the size band as we do.  It is a testament to the teaching, philosophy, and dedication of these students and their teachers who make this possible.

The top ensemble is the Wind Symphony, followed by Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Golden State Band…  Again, to earn a spot in any of these ensembles is an honor and a challenge.

Congratulations to the following students who earned positions in the CBDA All-State Ensembles.  They will represent us in Sacramento at CASMEC this January!!!

Baylin Lamee – French Horn – Wind Symphony

Alex Fisher – Alto Sax – Wind Symphony

Luke Noordmas – Tenor Sax – Wind Symphony

Andy Fisher – String Bass – Wind Symphony

Nathan Hazelrigg – Trombone – All-State Jazz Band

Winter Concert… CALLING ALL MUSICIANS

IT’S NOT TOO LATE!!!

Were you a member of your high school or college band?  If so we would love for you to join us in a holiday tradition performing with the Clovis North Wind Ensemble on the last piece of our Winter Concert.  The concert is on December 11.  We will have a short rehearsal @ 6:30 in the band room.  Send an email to davidlesser@cusd.com with the part you would like to play.  So far we have 16 friends and family signed up to join us.  We have room for many more.  Don’t be afraid.  It is lots of fun.  you must provide your own wind instrument

What Happens After Thanksgiving Break?

When we return from break we will spend the first week getting ready for the Clovis Electric Holiday Parade as well as getting ready for our Winter Concert on December 11.

We will begin Wind Ensemble rehearsals Monday evenings from 5:30 - 9:00pm.

Winter Guard rehearsals will begin. Varsity Winter Guard has rehearsals on Monday & Wednesday evenings.

JV Winter Guard calendar will be released this week.  It looks like they will rehearse on Tuesdays after school.

Winter Percussion rehearsals will begin.  They rehearse on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

As always check CutTime for the calendar of events. We will be updating the CutTime calendar shortly and should have things sorted by groups as well.

THANK YOU!

Thank you again for everything that has occurred since the start of the school year.  I am thankful for the character of students we have.  They are a joy to see each day.  Thank you to the fantastic team of teachers we have working here.  They make it easy to come to work each day.  Thanks to our great families.  I hope you love being a Bronco as much as I do!

Enjoy the rest of the week and the beginning of the holiday season. Don’t forget to watch that parade Thursday morning!!!

Have a great rest of your week!
